This year’s toolkit is designed to help you advocate, mobilise, and collect petition signatures to secure sustained investment to grow and strengthen the midwifery workforce in your community and country.

The ICM 2026 Congress Secretariat is aware that current developments in the Middle East may create uncertainty for some participants regarding travel arrangements. The Congress, taking place in Lisbon, Portugal in June 2026, is proceeding as planned, and the organising committee is closely monitoring the situation.

Through this guide, we aim to provide a reference for agreed Spanish and French terminology, supporting consistent translation and clarity across ICM publications and global communications.

The cost of attending Congress can often be a barrier, especially for midwives working in low-resource settings or in independent practice. While the ICM call for bursaries has been closed, there are a few funding options that exist, and we have provided ten practical avenues that you can explore.

If you have been following our work over the past couple of months, this announcement will likely feel familiar. One message has come through clearly and consistently across our advocacy, research, and campaigns: the world needs One Million More Midwives. 

Currently, ICM has been made aware of a website with a very similar name, internationalmidwife.org, operated by an organisation called the International Registry of Midwives (IRM). ICM has no affiliation to this organisation, and mistaking one for the other may have serious consequences for public safety and professional credibility

Through our Governance Policies, ICM expresses the philosophy, accountability and specifics of our goals and the parameters in which we operate.

This holiday season, the ICM invites you to support our WithWomen campaign by helping cover the costs of taking a midwife to Congress. Your donation will support midwives from low- and middle-income countries to attend the 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon in 2026 – the largest and most important global gathering of midwives.

On 04 November 2025, more than 120 participants joined “Unlocking Impact: Midwives as the Key,” an official ICFP side event co-hosted by the PUSH Campaign, ICM’s global advocacy campaign for woman-centred care, and Global Health Visions (GHV).

Attending the ICM Triennial Congress is often a career-changing experience for midwives. ICM and its partners are committed to helping midwives from low- and middle-income Countries (LMICs) to have this experience by providing funding to attend Congress through our Congress Bursary Programme.

Midwives and obstetrician-gynaecologists (ob-gyns) and their respective associations are committing to interprofessional collaboration at the global and national levels, with the goal of improving women’s access to sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health (SRMNAH) services.
