Translations
Translation of any copyrighted work without the prior written permission of ICM is forbidden. To request permission to translate copyrighted material, please email [email protected]. Permission must be granted in writing and carries the obligations listed below.
- Final translations must include the disclaimer: “This translation was not created by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM). ICM is not responsible for the accuracy of this translation. The original English edition “[Title]. © International Confederation of Midwives; [Year]. All rights reserved” is the binding and authentic edition”.
- The final translation must be sent to ICM. It will be made publicly available on the ICM website.
ICM’s Core Documents are available in its three official languages: English, French and Spanish.
ICM will only grant permission for one translation of any one document into a given language other than English, French and Spanish. For example, there may only be one German translation of the ICM International Definition and Scope of Practice of the Midwife. ICM encourages member associations and universities to work together where translation of a document is required.
Whilst permission is not required for translations of ICM resources available under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence, we strongly encourage our member associations, universities and other organisations who may wish to translate one of these resources to apply the principles outlined above. Notably that member associations work with universities where translation of a resource is required, and that final translations are sent to ICM so they can be made available on the website.
Translations of ICM resources available under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licence must include the following statement:
“This translation was not created by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM). ICM is not responsible for the accuracy of this translation. The original English edition “[Title]. [Place of publication]: International Confederation of Midwives; [Year]. Licence: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0” is the binding and authentic edition”.
