Enhancing Midwifery Education Webinar

20 August 2024 @ 02:30 CEST
Online
Hosted By: ICM

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) collaborated to host a pivotal webinar that concentrated on strengthening pre-service midwifery education programmes and how ICM’s Midwifery Education Development Pathway (MPath) suite of resources could support midwife educators. Many countries globally, including those in Africa, encountered significant challenges in developing, implementing, and sustaining effective midwifery education programmes. These challenges included limited resources, inadequate clinical training facilities, and insufficient support systems, which hindered the ability of midwifery professionals to deliver optimal care.

This webinar aimed to address these issues by providing a platform for sharing knowledge, strategies, and best practices related to strengthening pre-service midwifery education with the support of ICM’s MPath. MPath was a suite of resources, beginning with self-assessment of midwifery programmes, and designed to guide and support the development and enhancement of midwifery education programmes to meet international standards and respond effectively to local needs. By fostering dialogue and sharing experiences, the webinar sought to strengthen midwifery education across Africa and beyond, ultimately contributing to improved maternal and newborn health outcomes in the region.
