Kate Stringer
Kate joined ICM in September 2024 as a Midwifery Advisor. At ICM, she leads and coordinates a diverse portfolio of work focused on strengthening midwifery education, advancing midwifery leadership, and promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Kate leads ICM’s Collaborate for Women project, which is aligned with the World Health Organization and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics. The initiative aims to improve the quality of and access to family planning and comprehensive abortion care through pre-service midwifery education and stronger interprofessional collaboration across Sierra Leone, Nepal, Mozambique, Bangladesh and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Before joining ICM, Kate worked as a Consultant Midwife in the UK, where she supported women and families making complex birth plans, provided clinical leadership in intrapartum settings and contributed to national projects supporting early-career midwives and multidisciplinary training teams. She has also worked internationally in India, Sri Lanka and Somaliland, supporting the development of midwifery practice and respectful maternity care.
Kate’s areas of expertise include intrapartum care, interdisciplinary training, human rights and vaginal breech birth. She recently moved to The Hague with her family and is looking forward to continuing to support ICM’s work to improve maternal health and advance gender equity globally. In her spare time, Kate is an avid football fan and enjoys following her teams to as many matches as possible.
