Deepali Upadhyaya

Deepali Y. Upadhyaya was elected as the Americas Regional Board Member (RBM) in June 2026. As a Regional Board Member, Deepali is responsible for sharing experiences from her region and steering the Board in meeting its strategic and governance responsibilities with a global focus, together with the other Regional Board Members. The Regional Board Member is a spokesperson for ICM in regional strategic partnerships and at national meetings and events for ICM’s member associations in the region.

Professor Deepali Upadhyaya is a registered practising midwife, educator and researcher with experience in perinatal and child health and the education of healthcare providers across diverse international settings.

Deepali is Academic Director of Midwifery at Mount Royal University in Canada and Co-Editor of the Canadian Journal of Midwifery Research and Practice. Her teaching and research focus on midwifery preceptorship and experiential learning, cultural humility in midwifery education, and perinatal and newborn care in low- and middle-income countries.

Deepali holds a PhD in Community Health Sciences, specialising in medical education, from the University of Calgary. She also holds a Master of Science in Nurse-Midwifery from Oregon Health Sciences University.

Deepali serves as a Director at Large for the Canadian Association for Midwifery Education. Her experience across clinical practice, education, research and professional service informs her work as ICM’s Americas Regional Board Member.
