Ann Yates

Midwife Advisor

Ann Yates joined ICM in 2017. As the Lead Midwife Advisor, Ann spearheads the leadership development of young midwives, offers expert midwifery advice for policy and guideline development, liaises with UN organisations, and creates resources for respectful maternity care and mentoring.

Prior to joining ICM, Ann accumulated over 40 years of experience as a midwife. Her expertise spans clinical midwifery practice, leadership, and management in diverse low and high-resource settings. Ann played a pivotal role in on-the-ground support for the development and capacity building of midwifery education in Papua New Guinea. Her work within health systems focused on providing opportunities for women to access midwifery care, contributing to her goal of improving outcomes for women and newborns through safe, respectful midwife-led care.

Formerly based in The Hague, Ann now resides in New Zealand. As a mother of four and grandmother to three, she cherishes spending time outdoors with those who laugh easily and don’t take themselves too seriously.
