Humanitarian and Climate Crises

Direct Relief, Every Mother Counts, ICM

With support from Direct Relief, ICM has provided emergency grants to Türkiye, Morocco, and Ukraine as part of our response to humanitarian and climate related crises.

With the war in Ukraine, ICM provided targeted funding to member associations (MAs) in Estonia, Hungary, and Romania to deliver emergency maternal and reproductive health care services for refugees and displaced persons affected by the war in Ukraine. This emergency humanitarian funding was possible through partnership with Direct Relief and Every Mother Counts.

In the fall of 2023, Morocco experienced its most deadly earthquake in 120 years. ICM and the Moroccan Association of Midwives (AMSF) partnered with Direct Relief to support midwives in delivering emergency health services to pregnant and lactating women. This included organizing medical caravans in disaster-prone areas to deliver postnatal emergency services to those who needed it most. This initiative contributed to the reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality while ensuring the continuity of reproductive health services amid this natural disaster.

In response to devastating earthquakes in February 2023, ICM and Direct Relief provided targeted funding to ICM’s member association in Türkiye to provide essential reproductive health services as part of its humanitarian response.
