PMNCH Partner’s Forum 2018

The ICM President Franka Cadeé, ICM Chief Executive Sally Pairman and ICM Lead Midwife Advisor Ann Yates attended the PMNCH Partner’s Forum and Pre-Partner’s Forum meetings from 10-14 December in Delhi, India.

The Forum brought together a community of PMNCH partners to share knowledge and experience, to monitor progress and highlight key areas for action on the 2020 targets of the Survive, Thrive and Transform agenda.

The ICM representatives attended various pre-forum meetings, including:

  • The Midwives Forum co-hosted by WHO, ANSWERS and the Society of Midwives India (SOMI). This event included a panel of women discussing their needs and options and a panel of midwives discussing their practice challenges. SOMI launched the Normal Birth Campaign India which runs from Dec 10– May 5, 2019.
  • Further consultation took place with participants about key strategies and developments in midwifery education in preparation for the report on the Global Strategy for Women’s Children’s and Adolescent’s Health to be presented at the World Health Assembly in 2019.
  • Spotlight on many voices of the Early Childhood Workforce, organised by Bernard Van Leer Foundation. ICM was represented by Ann Yates, Lead Midwife Advisor, who discussed how the work of midwives impacts Early Childhood Development. 

The two-day Partner’s forum was formally opened by the Prime Minister of India and was attended by government representatives, Ministers of Health, professional organisations, development partners, donor agencies, NGOs and others.

There were many concurrent sessions over both days covering topics such as:  the role of women in political leadership, financing for health, political leadership, transformative power of young people, tackling violence against women, adolescent health, addressing the determinants of health in a humanitarian and fragile setting, and private sector accountability for health and nutrition.

President, Franka Cadée was a member of the Quality Equity Dignity panel, which discussed how improvements in services with respect to QED have made a difference in the life of women, children and adolescents.

A meeting of the PMNCH Board followed the Forum. The ICM President and CE are members of the Board.
