Marathon for Commemoration of the International Day of the Midwife – Tanzania

The Mkunga Marathon is a flagship awareness and fundraising event held as part of International Day of the Midwife (IDM) 2026, under the theme “One Million More Midwives.” It aims to highlight the critical role of midwives in saving lives and improving maternal and newborn health, while bringing together communities, health professionals, partners, and policymakers for a shared cause.

The expected outcomes include increased public awareness on maternal and newborn health, strengthened recognition and investment in the midwifery workforce, mobilization of resources for essential equipment and outreach services, and stronger partnerships to advance quality, respectful care for mothers and newborns across Tanzania.
