Anna af Ugglas

Chief Executive

Anna af Ugglas joined ICM in 2025. As Chief Executive, Anna is responsible for leading ICM and ensuring that the organisation sets and achieves its strategic priorities. She works closely with the ICM President, Board and the Head Office Leadership Team.

Prior to joining ICM, Anna brought over 33 years of professional experience as a midwife and educator. She began her career at Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, working in the labor and neonatal wards as well as a youth clinic. With over eight years of clinical, administrative, and supervisory midwifery roles in Sweden, Anna transitioned to international work in 2010 with UNFPA, serving as a Senior Programme Specialist in Midwifery in Bangladesh and later as a Technical Specialist in Lao PDR. Subsequently, Anna joined WHO in 2017 as a consultant and later worked with Laerdal Global Health and Laerdal Medical, focusing on program implementation, partnerships, and developing simulation-based midwifery education solutions and programmes to enhance maternal and newborn health globally.

Anna holds a bachelor’s degree in midwifery and a master’s degree in Social Science with a specialization in Nursing Education from Stockholm University. She has held leadership roles in multicultural and cross professional organizations, including the Swedish Association of Midwives and ICM’s Independent Election Committee.
