The ICM Global Standards for Midwifery Regulation – Self-assessment Tool is designed to help midwifery regulatory authorities review how well their current regulatory systems align with the ICM Global Standards for Midwifery Regulation. It provides a structured, evidence-based way to assess key areas such as governance, education, registration, continuing competence, and complaints and discipline, with a clear focus on public safety and professional accountability.

Using a simple red-amber-green rating system, the tool supports regulators and stakeholders to identify strengths, gaps, and priority actions for improvement. It can be used as part of a one-off review or repeated over time to track progress, support planning, and strengthen midwifery regulation in line with global best practice.
