Midwives’ Data Hub Wins Gold for Data Innovation

ICM
19 November 2025

We are proud to announce that ICM’s Midwives’ Data Hub has been named winner of the prestigious Gold Anthem Award in the category for Best Use of Data – Health.

“Part of our Triennial Strategy is to ensure that ICM has a strong, impactful digital presence to power our advocacy for midwives and midwifery. This award, the second in two years for an ICM website, shows us that we are moving in the right direction,” said Daniela Drandić, Head of Advocacy and Communications at ICM, who led the project alongside Hub Lead Jessica White.

With more than 50 data layers from over 15 verified sources—including workforce statistics, information about policy, regulation, and health indicators across sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health (SRMNAH), the Hub enables users to compare country-specific profiles, explore trends and download datasets for advocacy and research.

This award will raise the profile of the Hub and, in turn, help more educators, advocates, policymakers and researchers find it and use it. We also hope it will bring more funding, stronger policy support and greater global visibility for midwives and midwifery.

About the Anthem Awards

Created by the organisers of the Webby Awards—one of the internet’s most respected institutions—the Anthem Awards carry the same reputation for rigor, selectivity, and industry recognition. Winning an Anthem Award places a project among the highest-calibre digital initiatives worldwide.

Each year, submissions are reviewed by an international academy of experts, adding an additional layer of credibility and prestige. Winning an Anthem Award highlights not only creative and technological excellence but also a meaningful contribution to society. ICM Chief Executive Anna af Ugglas, notes that “Winning in the data category underscores midwives’ evolving role in global health research, and reinforces ICM’s leadership in advocating for midwives’ contributions to health systems and better outcomes.”

Global Midwives’ Hub Lead Jessica White explains, By turning trusted global datasets into an accessible resource, we’re giving midwives and their advocates the evidence they need to strengthen health systems. When information is clear and trusted, it amplifies midwives’ leadership and accelerates meaningful change for women, newborns, and communities.”

About the Hub

Since its initial launch in 2021, the Midwives’ Data Hub has provided trusted, searchable data on midwifery and on sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn and adolescent health—supporting midwives to advocate for better health outcomes and a stronger midwifery profession.

The updated Hub reflects feedback from users around the world. It is now more intuitive, more adaptable, and designed with users in mind, whether they are looking for statistics, preparing a presentation, writing a report, conducting research or shaping policy, the Midwives’ Data Hub is built to give users the data they need, quickly and easily.

Winning Gold in the Best Use of Data Category shows that the Data Hub is not just a good tool, but a world-class digital solution for social change.

“Data alone doesn’t change outcomes—but it changes conversations,” concludes Daniela Drandić.

About the Hub Team

This work would have been impossible without a strong, interdisciplinary team of global experts.

Friendly Design Co., the creative studio and social enterprise (B-Corp) that stands behind ICM’s award-winning flagship website and the Hub, is based in the United States. For the Hub, they focused on human-centred design that makes complex health data accessible to everyone regardless of their technical background or location.

Dymaptic, a woman-owned GIS consultancy company is also based in the United States. Dymaptic’s work on the Hub showcases what they do best, turning raw location data into intuitive web apps, maps and dashboards people actually use.

Novametrics is a UK-based research and knowledge management consultancy. They supported the work by collating validated global datasets relevant to SRMNAH and midwifery in one place, in a way that is clear and accessible to a broad group of users.

The Hub’s logo, branding and design were developed by ICM Designer Inma Nuñez, who brought ICM’s colour palette, typography and human-centred visuals together with concept of geo-location, maps and data in a fresh, and clearly aligned design.

The Midwives’ Data Hub was financially supported by Direct Relief, one of ICM’s long-term, core partners. Direct Relief is a global humanitarian organisation that provides essential medical resources—like medicines, vaccines, and supplies—to health facilities in underserved communities and disaster-affected areas. We value their continued support for the Hub, and in supporting midwives providing essential SRMNAH services to women and communities in humanitarian settings globally.
