“As many countries in the world are battling to combat the current COVID-19 pandemic, babies are still being born, they require to be fed, and therefore as midwives, we must continue promoting and giving support to breastfeeding mothers.”

As part of World Breastfeeding Week (Aug 1-7,2020), Young Midwife Leader, Tekla Shiindi-Mbidi wrote a blog post outlining why midwives in her home country of Namibia and around the world must ramp up efforts to support breastfeeding women during and after this global pandemic. In her post, Tekla outlines the benefits of breastfeeding and provides her thoughts on how midwives and midwives’ associations can help raise awareness about the importance of early and exclusive breastfeeding.
