ICM
15 July 2019

On 6 June 2019, at the Women Deliver Conference in Vancouver, Canada, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) jointly hosted a closed discussion on the relationship between obstetricians and midwives, titled, ‘Is the obstetrician-midwife relationship a danger to women?’  The moderator was Raj Kumar, Editor-in-Chief, Devex.

The closed discussion was structured under Chatham House rules to allow attendees to talk honestly with each other. There were 15 active participants and approximately 60 observers.

ICM and FIGO are committed to working together to strengthen and improve the relationship between obstetricians and midwives globally.  Both professional bodies will provide leadership with their Member Associations to help ensure the midwife-obstetrician relationship is a respectful partnership that, in turn, ensures respectful quality care to mothers and babies.
