International Day of the Midwife 2025 – TAMA
This year’s IDM celebrations focus on the theme “Midwives: Critical in Every Crisis”, highlighting the vital role midwives play in ensuring maternal and newborn health, even in challenging situations.
The Tanzania Midwives Association (TAMA) is hosting three exciting events to celebrate International Day of the Midwife (IDM)!
Event Overview & Purpose:
• May 2 (Dar es Salaam): Climate Change & Maternal Health Dialogue – A discussion on how climate change impacts maternal health and the role midwives play in adapting to these challenges.
• May 4-5 (Shinyanga): Midwifery Workshops & Free Health Services – Capacity-building for midwives, plus free RMNCAH services, including family planning, maternal health checkups, vaccinations, and cervical cancer screening, to improve community health.
• May 5 (Shinyanga): Midwives’ March & Rally – A powerful demonstration of solidarity to honor midwives and advocate for improved midwifery care.
Expected Outcomes:
• Increased awareness of midwives’ role in crisis response and maternal health.
• Strengthened midwifery skills through workshops.
• Improved community access to essential reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) services.
• Public recognition and appreciation of midwives’ contributions.
