Creative Ways to Push for One Million More Midwives
We’ve launched One Million More Midwives — a global petition calling on governments and health leaders to grow, support, and sustain the midwifery workforce. Our goal is ambitious: one million signatures by June 2026 — one for every midwife the world urgently needs. To achieve this, we need your creativity, your networks, and your voice.
This campaign is more than a petition. It’s about creating global visibility for midwives — sparking conversations about their vital role in saving lives, protecting rights, and improving care. Every single action you take helps push us closer to one million.
Already, 13.500 people have signed — and together we can keep the momentum growing.
We are doing all we can to push for One Million More Midwives — but we need your support to succeed. Below are some creative ways you can help gather more signatures. And remember: if you try any of these or come up with your own, you can share your story and enter our contest for a chance to win a ticket to Congress.
Ideas to Get More Signatures
1. Share online — and often
Use the campaign hashtag #OneMillionMore and post the petition link on your social media. You can reshare ICM’s content or create your own. Use the campaign assets available for download. Choose the platforms you usemost, and explain why you signed or why others should. You can also share a personal story that highlights the importance of midwives or the need for more in your personal context. Whatever you decide to do, tag us — we’d love to celebrate you and share your posts.
2.Bring it to your workplace
It doesn’t matter where you work — someone there will one day need a midwife. Print one of our posters or create your own using the QR code from our downloadable assets, and post it on bulletin boards, in elevators, or in staff common areas. Talk to your colleagues about it and encourage them to sign.
3. Mobilise your community
Community has power. This petition gives you the chance to talk about midwives and their work. Whether you are a midwife or a supporter, bring your community together around this cause. Use local events, places of worship, or neighbourhood meetings to encourage people to sign and join the call.This is your chance to talk about midwives and their powerful role.
4. Organise a signing drive
This is your moment to gather people together. Set up a table in your hospital, school, or community centre where people can scan the QR code and sign. Combine it with an information session or a workshop on a topic you care about — something that brings your community closer while highlighting the role of midwives and the petition.
5. Go creative
Host a small event, create a video, or use art, theatre, or music to draw attention. The more unique your approach, the more people will engage — and the further the petition will spread.

All entries submitted by 10 March 2026 will be entered into a contest to win one of three free tickets (registration fee only) to attend the 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon. The raffle will be held in a live broadcast on Instagram on 16 March 2026. The most inspiring submissions will also be featured across ICM’s platforms and may be selected to speak at an ICM event.
