Already pushing for more midwives? Win a chance to join us in Lisbon 

The world needs more midwives. Through our One Million More petition, ICM is calling on governments to grow, support and sustain the global midwifery workforce so that women and gender diverse people everywhere can realise their sexual and reproductive health and rights. Our goal is simple and ambitious: one million signatures for One Million More midwives by the time we meet at the 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon in June 2026. 

Across the world, midwives and their supporters are already taking action. You are talking about the petition in your communities, organising events, sharing it online, putting up posters and finding creative ways to call for change. 

We know that travelling to Congress and paying the registration fee can be difficult for many midwives and advocates. As a thank you for all your efforts to gather signatures, ICM is launching a contest that will give three people the chance to attend Congress with a free registration (registration fee only). 

What is the One Million More contest? 

The One Million More contest is an opportunity for midwives and supporters who are already campaigning for signatures – or who wish to start – to win a chance to join us in Lisbon for the 34th ICM Triennial Congress, taking place from 14–18 June 2026. 

If you are (or plan to start): 

• Organising a petition table at your clinic, school, university or market 
• Running a social media campaign to encourage people to sign 
• Setting up a poster-signing activation in your workplace or community 
• Working with your Midwives’ Association or student group to gather signatures 
• Using any other creative way to promote the petition 

…you can participate. 

How to enter 

Taking part is simple. 

1. Promote the petition. Keep doing what you are already doing to share the One Million More petition in your community or start a new activity. 
2. Tell us your story. Use our short online form to describe what you are doing, who you are reaching and why you think your approach is effective or impactful. 
3. Upload at least one photo. Add at least one clear, relevant image that shows your activity in action. 

Only submissions made via the official form, with both a written explanation and at least one adequate photo, will be considered. Each person can submit once. 

Deadline for submissions: 10 March 2026. 

Who can take part? 

The contest is open to individuals aged 18 and over who are promoting the One Million More petition. We especially encourage members of ICM Midwives’ Associations to take part and share their work. You do not need to be a member to enter, but we are particularly keen to see how our members are promoting the petition. 

Submissions must be: 

• Relevant to the One Million More petition 
• Complete (story plus at least one photo) 
• Submitted on time via the official form 

Entries that are incomplete, inappropriate or unrelated to the campaign may be disqualified. 

What you can win 

Three winners will each receive: 

• One free registration (fee only) for the 34th ICM Triennial Congress in Lisbon in 2026. 

This prize covers the Congress registration fee only. It does not include travel, accommodation, visas or any other costs. 

If you have already paid your registration fee and you win, you can gift the code to a colleague. No refunds will be issued. Each prize will be issued as a personalised registration code for use on midwives2026.org. The code can be transferred to another person but may not be sold. 

Congress is the largest global gathering of midwives, where you will be able to share your experience, learn from others and celebrate the final signature count with colleagues from around the world. 

How winners will be chosen 

All eligible submissions received by 10 March 2026 will be entered into a randomised draw. 

• The draw will take place during a live broadcast on Instagram on 16 March 2026. 
• ICM will announce the broadcast time on our social media channels closer to the date.

Shine a light on your work 

This contest is not only about the prize. It is also a chance to highlight the powerful work midwives are doing to build demand for One Million More midwives and inspire others to take action. 

By entering, you may have the opportunity to: 

• Feature your story and photos on ICM’s website, social media and newsletter 
• Use your experience as an example in advocacy materials for One Million More 
• Contact you about opportunities to speak at future ICM events or webinars 

Some of the most inspiring submissions may be invited to share their story in more detail, giving your work global visibility.
