Consultation on ICM’s Position Statement on Midwifery Care for Indigenous Communities
ICM is consulting on a revised Position Statement on Equitable and Culturally Safe Midwifery Care for Indigenous Communities. This is an update to the Position Statement on Partnership with Indigenous Midwives, which ICM Council Delegates voted to temporarily suspend in 2026 pending a review and update.
The draft reflects preliminary information collected from the ICM Council and Indigenous Working Group, whose work ended in 2025. It has since been compiled and reviewed internally by the ICM Head Office Team and Board.
ICM is now seeking feedback through targeted participatory engagement with Indigenous groups and organisations. The online consultation is being shared with former members of the Indigenous Midwifery Working Group and other Indigenous leaders and contacts with relevant experience and perspectives. This consultation goes beyond ICM’s standard position statement update process because of the importance of hearing from Indigenous Peoples, communities and midwives.
If you would like to contribute, please email [email protected], telling us who you are and why your perspective should be included. We will send you a link to the consultation form. Feedback will be collected until 20 November 2026.
