Coming soon: Beyond the PUSH, a new podcast about the healthcare we need and the care we deserve
Through the PUSH Campaign and in partnership with birthFUND, we are excited to launch Beyond the PUSH — a new podcast featuring real stories about care, choices and what shapes women’s health.
Too often, women are expected to push through pain, dismissal and healthcare systems that were not designed around their needs. At the same time, women’s health is frequently reduced to reproduction and childbirth.
Beyond the PUSH moves beyond both ideas.
The podcast brings together midwives, health experts, advocates and people with lived experience for conversations that are honest, sometimes joyful, sometimes difficult and always deeply human.
Together, they explore the healthcare people receive, the choices available to them and the wider systems that shape their experiences. They also ask what needs to change so that every woman and gender diverse person can access respectful, equitable and person-centred care.
Real stories, bigger questions
Health experiences are not shaped by individual choices alone. They are influenced by power, policy, discrimination, resources, climate change and the way health systems are designed and delivered.
Across the first season, guests discuss reproductive choices, birth, breastfeeding, infertility and pregnancy loss. They confront obstetric violence and the inequalities that prevent people from receiving the care they need. They explore feminist health systems, LGBTQI+ inclusive care, the effects of climate change on reproductive health and what it means to provide care during humanitarian crises.
The podcast also challenges common myths about midwives and highlights their essential role in transforming healthcare.
Midwives listen, share information, respect people’s choices and provide care throughout their sexual and reproductive lives. Their experiences show what respectful, person-centred care can look like — and what becomes possible when midwives have the autonomy, resources and recognition they need.
At its heart, Beyond the PUSH is about the people working to change healthcare from within — those who are reimagining systems and standing alongside women and communities every day.
