4000 More Midwives needed for Papua New Guinea

The Papua New Guinea Midwifery Society, in collaboration with the National Department of Health and the United Nations Population Fund, is pleased to commemorate the 2026 International Day of the Midwife (IDM) on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

The theme for this year’s event is “One Million More Midwives,” and our national focus is advocating for 4,000 more midwives in Papua New Guinea to improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes and reduce maternal and infant mortality.
