University of West Attica – IDM 2026: One Million More Midwives
This event is organised by the Department of Midwifery of the University of West Attica to mark the International Day of the Midwife 2026, under the global theme “One Million More Midwives”, developed by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM).
It will take place on 8 May 2026, from 11:00 to 14:00 (EET), at the Athens Campus Amphitheatre of the University of West Attica (196 Alexandras Avenue, 11521 Athens).
The event aims to highlight the critical role of midwives in improving maternal, newborn, and reproductive health outcomes, while raising awareness of the global need for increased investment in midwifery education, workforce development, and leadership.
The programme will include presentations and discussions with midwives, academics, students, and invited representatives from political and state leadership, fostering dialogue on policy priorities and the integration of midwives into health systems, with particular reference to the Greek healthcare context.
Expected outcomes include strengthening advocacy for the midwifery profession, promoting the “One Million More Midwives” campaign, and encouraging collaboration between healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and policymakers to support sustainable improvements in maternal and newborn care.
