Solomon Hailemeskel Beshah
Solomon Hailemeskel Beshah joined ICM in 2026. As Midwife Advisor, Solomon provides professional and technical expertise to support the development and implementation of global strategies that strengthen midwifery education, regulation, and practice. He works closely with ICM midwives’ associations, partners, and stakeholders to advance evidence-based, rights-based, and woman-centred models of care in line with ICM Global Standards and Professional Framework for Midwifery.
Prior to joining ICM, Solomon built more than 15 years of experience across clinical practice, education, leadership, and midwifery research. He led and contributed to over ten national and international research projects funded by organisations including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Swedish Research Council, and the Laerdal Foundation. Solomon has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and has supervised postgraduate and doctoral students. He also contributed as a core member of the WHO STAGE Midwifery Group, supporting the development of global technical guidance and WHO position papers on models of midwife care.
Solomon is a registered midwife and holds a PhD in Midwifery and Women’s Health from the University of Gondar. Originally from Ethiopia and now based in The Hague, he is committed to mentoring early-career midwives and researchers. Outside of work, he values family life and enjoys reading, walking, and engaging in professional and community networks.
