2025 International Day of the Midwife – Ghana
The Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA) will host a two-day celebration in Takoradi, Ghana, to mark the 2025 International Day of the Midwife (IDM). This event will recognize and honor the essential role of midwives in Ghana’s healthcare system, particularly their contributions during times of crisis.
Day 1: Midwifery Simposium

Location: Takoradi Technical University
The symposium will provide a platform for discussion, learning, and collaboration among midwives, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders. The focus will be on the role of midwives in emergency response and crisis settings, as well as innovations and leadership in midwifery practice.

- Midwives’ Role in Crisis Situations: A moderated panel discussion highlighting the contributions of midwives in emergency response and disaster management.
- Innovations in Midwifery Care: Exploration of new technologies and approaches that strengthen midwifery in challenging environments.

The official IDM National Launch and Awards Ceremony will celebrate the dedication and achievements of midwives across the country.

- Awards Ceremony: Recognition of 23 outstanding midwives who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in their work.
- Keynote Speakers: With the First Lady of Ghana, Her Excellency Mrs. Lordina Mahama, as the Special Guest of Honour, along with renowned healthcare leaders sharing insights on maternal and newborn health.
- Networking Opportunities: A gathering point for midwives, healthcare professionals, educators, and policymakers to build relationships and foster collaboration.
