Strengthening the Midwives’ Community in Bulgaria
First Midwifery Forum 2025
Organized in honour of the International Day of the Midwife (celebrated on May 5th by the initiative of the International Confederation of Midwives), the First Midwifery Forum 2025 in Bulgaria offers a valuable opportunity for connection, knowledge-sharing, and celebration within the Bulgarian midwifery community.
The event will take place in the town of Panagyurishte—birthplace of the first qualified Bulgarian midwife, Raina Knyaginya—at the conference hall of the Historical Museum.
Preliminary Programme:
10:00 AM – Arrival and registration
10:30 AM – Official opening by Raina Boyadzhieva, Deputy Chair of the BAHPN, and Assoc. Prof. Atanas Shopov, Director of the Historical Museum Panagyurishte. Official guests will also share greetings with the midwifery community, including a special message from the grandson of Raina Knyaginya, a historical figure and inspiration for Bulgarian midwives.
11:00 AM – First Midwifery Session: Focus on prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care
1:00 PM – Lunch and coffee break
2:00 PM – Second Midwifery Session: Focus on midwifery education, standards of care, and the development of modern midwifery in Bulgaria
4:00 PM – Coffee break
4:30 PM – Discussion on the IDM 2025 theme: “Midwives: Essential in Every Crisis”
6:20 PM – Cultural visits to local landmarks related to Raina Knyaginya’s life and legacy
8:00 PM – Official dinner
