Midwives Association of Guyana

President: Tracy Gentle

The Midwives Association of Guyana was established in May 2010 as a sub-association of the Guyana Nurses Association which is a non-governmental organization registered under the Co-op, Thrift and Credit Society.

Motto: “Midwives: making a difference in the lives of women, children, families and communities”
Aim: Advance education in midwifery through continuous training, the use of information and technology, safe practices and professional care to all mothers, babies and the family.
Current status: With a steady growing membership and focal points in most regions, the association is active, has its own constitution, governing body and financial account. It takes the lead in facilitating Continuing Education for midwives in the country. In 2012, it became a member of ICM.
Priority areas: Continuing Education; finalization of Scope of Practice; Curriculum Revision to ensure concurrence with global standards; strengthening morale, advocacy and policy dialogue for midwives and midwifery.
