Midwives enhancing the reproductive health of women: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) 2009 – 2012

The aim of the project has been to strengthen Midwives Associations and enable midwives to effectively contribute to enhancing the reproductive health of women and reduce maternal and newborn mortality in their countries. The project officially ended in December 2012. 

The main activities included the production of the global standards for midwifery education, the global standards for midwifery regulation, the revision of the essential competencies for basic midwifery practice and the Member Association Capacity Assessment Tool. These documents were published in June 2012.

The focus for 2012 was the strengthening of the twinning relationships which were initiated in September 2011 among four sets of twins (eight countries) and the dissemination of the global standards, competencies and tools that were produced in the last triennium.
