ICM YML Becomes Newest ICM Head Office Member
ICM Head Office is pleased to welcome Jeffthanie Mathurin as ICM’s new Digital Communications Coordinator, sitting within the Advocacy and Communications team. Jeffthanie is a Haitian registered midwife and a current member of ICM’s Young Midwife Leaders (YML) Programme.
The YML programme is a part-time, two-year learning and professional development experience for 15 early-career midwives and 5 executive midwives from ICM’s member associations (MAs). Supported by Johnson & Johnson, the YML Programme empowers young midwives to become politically conscious and involved in strengthening the midwifery profession. The programme is recognised around the world for graduating ambitious community leaders with the skills to advance midwifery locally and globally. For Jeffthanie, it was her passion for midwifery and her desire to advocate for the wellbeing of Haitian women through a quality of sexual and reproductive health that motivated her to apply for the 2021-2023 YML Programme.
"It is my greatest pleasure to advocate for midwifery and women’s health, wellbeing, and autonomy,” said Jeffthanie. I’m grateful to ICM and the YML Programme to have developed my capacity and prepared me for the opportunity to do this now on a global level.”
Jeffthanie has also joined the Regional Professional Committee of the ICM’s Americas region as an emerging leader, where she will contribute to create stronger bonds and lines of communication between ICM member midwives’ associations and ICM.
It is a cross-cutting element of ICM’s strategic plan to enable midwives—and particularly those midwives who belong to an ICM member association—to pursue professional development opportunities and to contribute to strengthening partnerships, advocacy, and communications for midwifery.
