ICM is working with AMREF, supporting the Stand up for African Mothers campaign and is pleased to be able to benefit from AMREF's experience in e Learning and collaborative advocacy programmes.

With the strong belief that no woman should die giving birth but also that women and mothers are the heart and the future of Africa, AMREF launched in October 2011 the international campaign "Stand Up For African Mothers" patroned by Mrs Machel Mandela and supported by ICM. The “Stand Up for African Mothers” campaign is designed to spread one simple and clear message :

A healthy Africa needs healthy mothers and healthy mothers need African midwives

Through this campaign, AMREF and ICM with their partners wish to mobilise citizens worldwide to ensure that mothers and babies in Africa receive the basic medical care they need during pregnancy and childbirth. The objective is also to raise the necessary funds and support to scale up the midwives training programmes in order to train 15 000 midwives in Africa by 2015.
