Kyrgyz Alliance of Midwives

President: Chinara Kasakbaeva

Kyrgyz Alliance of Midwives (KAM) was established in February 2011.

Kyrgyz Alliance of Midwives is a partner for the implementation of national programs by the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as various development partners (WHO, USAID, Fulbright-Program, GIZ, LDS-Charities, UNICEF).

With the support of these institutions and international organizations and above all, thanks to our active members, we made great progress during the past years. KAM has about 500 members, 350 members of them being midwives. From the early beginning we were targeting capacity building of Kyrgyz midwifes. In cooperation with international organizations we implement trainings  on various topics, such as “Effective Perinatal Care”, “HIV Infection from Mother to Child”, “Effective Antenatal Care”, “Helping Babies Breathe” and “Helping Mothers Survive” and, last but not least, Infection Control.  In addition we are monitoring and mentoring maternity homes all over the Kyrgyzstan.

We are proud to publish the first pocket guide for practical midwives and a protocol for antenatal care during the General Assembly of Kyrgyz Alliance of Midwifes, which will take place in autumn 2015.

An ongoing objective is the improvement of the professional structure and activities of the association. We are very pleased that we are a member of the ICM since 2015, allowing us to exchange ideas and experiences with other midwives and professionals around the world.
