SOWMY launch in Malawi

The launch of the State of the World's Midwifery in Malawi was presided by the Hon. Minister of Health, Dr. Jean Kalilani, and was attended by over 180 people from all over the country, development partners (UNFPA, WHO, I-TECH, Save the Children and many more), ICM Vice President and ICM staff, Laerdal Global Health, Parliamentarians, District Commissioner, His Worship the Mayor of Lilongwe City, academics, and student representatives from all the Nursing and Midwifery Colleges in Malawi. It was indeed a great time having the launch of SOWmy 2014 and the launch of 10,000,000 Happy Birthdays Project together.

Displays during launchThe two launches were colourful with displays by ICM, Laerdal Global Health, AMAMI (Association of Malawian Midwives), Mamaye, Save the Children, KCN - Midwifery students. The Health education band sang most touching health songs composed in Chichewa.
There were also inspiring speeches by the outgoing Vice President of AMAMI, the Managing Director of Laerdal Global Health, Tore Laerdal, ICM Vice President, Address Malata, The Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services, Ministry of Health, UNFPA Country Representative, and the Minister of Health. AMAMI with UNFPA is planning to take a strong advocacy with the Parliamentary Health Committee about the issues highlighted in the Malawi section of the report.
